June 1st jam and other jam news

Like I was saying,  jam sessions are unpredictable.  Last Sunday on a beautiful day during graduation weekend we had 24 jammers, tied for the most ever. We had more drummers than we’ve had in a while, a nice mix of young and older jammers, good music, and lots of fun. We’re looking for the same […]

This tune is usually called at a very rapid tempo and involves many key changes. It is a great tune to work on fundamentals and […]

Alone Together

The next Madison Jazz Jam is Sunday, April 13. Here is an excerpt from Michael B-B’s article about the tune-of-the-week: Alone Together, by Howard Dietz and Arthur Schwartz, is a prime example of their American Songbook writing which often featured non-standard phrase lengths and alternation between the major and minor modes on the same root. Corcovado March 16th

Excerpt reposted from Madison Jazz Jam: The tune-of-the-week for our jam on March 16th is Corcovado. Also known as Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars, it is a bossa nova song written by Antonio Carlos Jobim in 1960. Most people play the real book version of this song and we will too. The original version, however, […]

Off to a flying start!

I wanted to share this post from our sister site, Madison Jazz Jam. Not only was it a great day at the jam’s new location, but I’m convinced The Fountain is going to be THE next Madison jazz hot spot.
